German music author award
The German Music Author Award is a German music award that has been awarded by GEMA since 2009. This award is intended to honor outstanding lyricists and composers . The winners are largely determined by a jury of experts made up of composers and lyricists from all genres of music.
The prize is awarded in ten categories. It is undoped - with the exception of the youngsters category , the winner of which receives 10,000 euros. In addition to the categories, prizes are awarded for life's work and for the most successful work . GEMA members can also submit their suggestions for the Young Talent Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The trophy of the German Music Author's Award has the shape of a three-dimensional clef and picks up the movement of a metronome : the clef sits on a ball. In it there is a singing bowl with a clapper. When you bump into the sculpture, it swings back and forth, with the clapper hitting the bowl. The trophy was designed by Viktoria Schmidt and Markus Bauer.
The 2018 jury process was criticized by musicians because of the lack of representation of female artists. This year, one of the 21 nominees was a woman; the jury was made up exclusively of men.
