According to her own account, she wrote it within five minutes at the kitchen table for a friend who was sick at the time. It is about a woman who outwardly only shows herself laughing. The narrator takes her by the hand and teaches her to show her true feelings towards others. Ott gave away some self-burned CDs of the song, which one of the recipients posted on YouTube and discovered there years later by Stereoact and released as a remix first at Tokabeatz in Chemnitz and then at Kontor Records in Hamburg . In March 2017, the market research company GfK Entertainment officially declared “Die immer laughs” to be the most successful work of 2016 and awarded the German Music Author Award. The title climbed to number 2 on the hit list in Germany (Official German Charts) and Austria (Ö3 Austria Top 40) and stayed in the top 10 for several months.
