Rainbow colors is a song by German pop schlager - singer Kerstin Ott . The piece comes from her second studio album, Courage for Disaster, and thanks to the duet with Helene Fischer, it gained greater fame in her home country.

Creation and artwork

The song was written jointly by Berislaw Audenaerd, Kraans de Lutin , Steven Fritsch, Kerstin Ott and Jan Niklas Simonsen. The mixing, production and programming of the piece was done through the collaboration of Brötzmann and Lüth, who can also be heard together on the keyboard. In addition to Brötzmann and Lütz on the keyboard, the well-known studio musician Jörg Sander was hired to play the guitar sounds . The mastering was carried out by HP Mastering Hamburg , under the direction of the studio owner Hans-Philipp Graf. Rainbow Colors was published under the Polydor music label , published by Edition Balalaika Media, Edition Kerstin Ott and Edition Phlexton, and distributed by Universal Music Publishing .

On the cover of a promo single - next to the artist name and song title - you can see Ott's upper body. She wears a white T-shirt, a black and white Adidas jacket and is equipped with an acoustic guitar . The background, in which other acoustic guitars can be seen, is designed in the colors of a rainbow , which flow into one another. The cover picture is the same as on the album Mut zur Katastrophe , only the color scheme is different . The artwork is by Sabine Schiller.

Publication and promotion

Rainbow colors were first released as a promo single on July 27, 2018 for single download. Three weeks later (August 17, 2018) the song was released as part of Ott's second studio album, Courage to Disaster . Again two weeks later (August 31, 2018), Rainbow Colors was released again as a promo single.

In order to promote the song, a number of live appearances took place during prime time at the Schlagerbooom - everything sparkles! Everything is glittering! on ARD , at Willkommen 2019 on ZDF or at the Schlagerchampions - Big Festival of the Best 2019 on ARD. In addition, there are other live appearances such as in the ZDF television garden , the evening show of the Bavarian radio and every Sunday on the ARD. The music streaming service Amazon Prime Music used the song for a radio commercial in 2019 and 2020. In addition, Rainbow was the theme song for Berlin Pride Week .

content

The lyrics to rainbow colors are written in German. The music and the text were written jointly by Berislaw Audenaerd, Kraans de Lutin, Steven Fritsch, Kerstin Ott and Jan Niklas Simonsen. Musically, the song is moving in the field of Pop - Schlager . The tempo is 123 beats per minute . In terms of content, rainbow colors is about tolerance in society , but above all in love. The song deals with marriage for everyone , but is particularly intended to show that love in any form of partnership is normal and always something wonderful. Ott has been married to a woman himself since 2017, and it is an autobiographical piece. Ott himself said the following about the content of the play: “Basically we are all just people who strive for the same goal: to be happy. There are a thousand different ways of life; we should give everyone the chance to be happy in their own way. No one should presume to dictate to another what he or she should wear, what he or she should feel, or whom he or she should love. The song is a clear statement against intolerance and bigotry; and a loud 'yes' to diversity and humanity . Because life is colorful - rainbow colors colorful! "

The song is based on two stanzas and a chorus. It starts with the first verse, followed by a pre-chorus and finally the actual chorus . The second verse is followed by the chorus before the song ends with the same pre-chorus as before the first verse. In addition to Ott's main vocals, the voice of co-author Simonsen can also be heard in the background.

“Come on, let's paint the world.
In rainbow colors, we want them everywhere - rainbow flags.
Come over! Come on, let the world shine.
In rainbow colors, you can see them everywhere - rainbow flags. "

- Refrain, original excerpt

Music video

The music video to rainbow colors celebrated its premiere on August 17, 2018 on YouTube . You can see three different stories. On the one hand you see happy homosexual couples again and again, for example in their everyday life or during their wedding . On the other hand, a little boy can be seen again and again who comes home from school and immediately goes to his desk to paint. With the help of wax crayons , he creates the image of a whale, which is composed of many leaves. Third, you see Ott again and again at different locations singing the song. The rainbow in the form of flags or balloons can always be seen in the background . At one location, Ott is initially alone in a garden, towards the end of the video, her wife Karolina joins them and the two kiss. The total length of the video is 4:01 minutes. As with various Ott music videos before, Oliver Sommer from AVA Studios was again directing the film. To date, the music video has over 45.4 million views on YouTube (as of December 2019).

When asked about the kissing scene with her wife, Ott said that the idea for this originally came from her "video maker". He said it would be great if they did something together in front of the camera. That plunged them into a small “catastrophe” because they had to do “a million” kissing scenes before they even had anything up their sleeves. In principle, Ott and her wife would make sure not to stand in front of the camera together that often, but here her wife was immediately there.
