German airplay charts

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Airplaycharts (alternatively: German Radio Charts ) are a series of chart evaluations that have been determined since 1977 on behalf of the Federal Association of the Music Industry (BVMI). They contain the most played songs on the German radio market and are the official airplay and radio charts in Germany.

Chart lists and scope

Current chart lists

  • Airplaycharts (top 300 hit list)
  • Conservative Pop Airplaycharts (Top 50 hit list)
  • New Entry Airplaycharts (Top 100 hit list)
  • Folk music Airplaycharts (Top 20 hit list)

Former chart lists

  • Youth Airplaycharts (Top 50 hit list), last edition: Chart week 53/2015, forerunner of the New Entry Airplaycharts
  • Mainstream Airplaycharts (Top 50 hit list), last edition: Chart week 53/2015, forerunner of the New Entry Airplaycharts

sample

The aim of the collection is the representative illustration of music usage on German radio. As with the determination of the sales charts , it is not necessary to record all existing "programs". A representative sample is sufficient. Starting points for the selection of programs are the following criteria:

  • Range
  • Program structure
  • Independence in program decisions

Both public and private providers are taken into account. By concentrating on programs with a large reach, the sample approaches a full census . The corresponding daily reach is used for all programs recorded in the sample.

Weighting of innovations

When a new title enters the top 200 in the cross-format airplay charts for the first time, it receives a one-time twelve-week “novelty bonus”. This is independent of whether the item in question is in the TOP 300 charts or not during this bonus period . The bonus leads to an additional evaluation of the respective title with 0.5 points (corresponding to 500,000 listeners) for the day (6:00 am to 11:59 pm) and 0.125 (corresponding to 125,000 listeners) points for the night (24:00 to 05:00 am) : 59 o'clock). All stations observed and dotted for the airplay charts are weighted according to their current range. The current list including the transmitter assigned to the respective "Format Charts" constantly for the airplay charts recorded programs can be obtained from the interest in the association's office. Member companies are regularly informed of changes.

Cleanup rules

Songs are removed from the airplay charts 26 weeks after entering the TOP 300 charts . Titles that are still in the single charts will only be cleared after they have left the airplay charts , even if they have been placed for more than 26 weeks. Titles that have already been removed from the airplay charts and re- enter the single charts will be counted for the TOP 300 charts from the following week until they exit the single charts again . A re-registration of adjusted titles for the Airplaycharts is not possible. The same applies to " remastered products ", while new additions can be counted as new products. The old versions must not be added to newly registered new entries. In contrast to this, titles that have not been among the top 200 of the airplay charts for at least 26 weeks and never reached the top 50 of the single charts may be re- evaluated for the determination of the airplay charts . The rules for the novelty bonus and cleanup are recalculated from the re-registration. The prerequisite for re-inclusion in the Airplay Charts is that these titles are also re-registered via the Music Promotion Network (MPN) or manually with the official Airplay Charts investigator.

Conservative Pop Airplaycharts

The conservative stations in the panel are also taken into account in the Conservative Pop Airplay charts, in addition to being recorded in the Top 300 charts . The current allocation of the radio stations is checked regularly and can be requested from the association's office if you are interested. The Conservative Pop Airplaycharts are determined for 50 positions. Titles can only qualify once for the Conservative Pop Airplaycharts from the start of surveillance . Regardless of their placement in the single charts, the titles will be removed from the Conservative Pop Airplay Charts 26 weeks after entering the Top 300 charts . All titles from the Top 300 charts qualify for the Conservative Pop Airplaycharts , the majority of which are broadcast on the channels on the Conservative broadcaster panel. To calculate the ranking within the Conservative Pop Airplaycharts , the airplay points of the missions at the conservative broadcasters are used. The novelty bonus follows the rules of the Top 300 charts .

Carl Mahlmann, a former member of the upper management of EMI Electrola GmbH Cologne , described the target group of the "Conservative (Pop)" segment as follows:

  • The focus is on the 40–50 age group, but the range is from 20–60 years
  • predominantly female persons
  • Income and education level are more average to below average
  • Preferred repertoire is German-language and instrumental music (e.g. hits and folk music )

New Entry Airplaycharts

The New Entry Airplaycharts show products that are new to the radio stations' track lists in order to act as trend indicators for music labels, media and end users. The New Entry Airplaycharts comprise 100 positions. Titles are cleaned up twelve weeks after first entering the chart. In principle, no novelty bonus is granted for the New Entry Airplaycharts . Furthermore, there will be no re-entry of the titles through listing in the single charts . Titles that have been cleaned up can no longer be placed in the New Entry Airplaycharts . The New Entry airplay charts combine the former since the beginning of 2015 youth and mainstream airplay charts , which were determined separately as a top 50 hit list to the chart week 53/2015.

Registration procedure for the Airplaycharts

Presentation of music tracks

MPN customers are advised to include MusicTrace as standard in their sampling groups. If additional versions are added to a product at a later point in time, MusicTrace must be notified of this by e-mail .
  • MusicTrace will be emailed a download link or individual MP3 file. The mp3 files must meet the following requirements: sampling frequency : 44.1 kHz / 48kHz, resolution : 16 bit , bit rate : at least 128 kBit / stereo . In addition, the following minimum information must be given: artist, title, music label and optionally: distribution , label code , authors , publisher , date of publication, ISRC / EAN , genre . Individual titles that are presented to MusicTrace in this way are usually included in the monitoring process within two working days and counted for the airplay charts.

  • Name of the music label / repertoire owner
  • Contact address with contact person
  • Music title with artist / title / label

Process of recording airplay charts

  1. Music tracks are entered into the monitoring system at MusicTrace after the correct template. MusicTrace generates a digital fingerprint from the audio signal of the music track. All versions of a product registered by the repertoire owner are taken into account for the airplay recording. Different versions can differ in terms of mix, length and instrumentation. In the case of song titles, text elements, but not the title line and basic message, may vary in different versions. Changing the language creates a new title and not a new version of the same title.
  2. MusicTrace monitors the radio stations specified as chart-relevant in the panel based on the audio signal sent and uses the fingerprint generated in the first step to determine the stakes of the music titles presented.
  3. The survey period for the monitoring lasts from Friday 00:00 to the Thursday of the following week 23:59. Stakes that were determined to be at least 90 seconds long during this period are weighted with the specified range and added up for all versions of a title. (Night operations between 00:00 and 05:59 receive five percent of this weight). The ranking of the airplay charts obtained by descending order of titles according to their accumulated ranges.

Milestones

On December 20, 2019, Liam Payne and A Boogie wit da Hoodie reached the top of the airplay charts with Stack It Up , without the single ever being able to place in the German single charts.
