Jupiter Jones was a band from the Eifel , which became known to a larger audience in 2011 through the title Still and received an echo .

history

The band, founded in autumn 2002 at a party in the Eifel region , was named after the young detective Jupiter Jones (in German Justus Jonas ) from the English-language original version of the book and radio play series Die Drei ??? . The German lyrics are typical for the band. Jupiter Jones releases Tonträger on the band's own label Mathildas und Titus , which is also based on characters from Die Drei ??? is named.

The band's first demo, Auf das Leben , was recorded in the year it was founded and made available for download on the Internet. Subsequently, they were active as the opening act for Muff Potter , the Donots and The (International) Noise Conspiracy . In November 2003, they reached the second place in the Rockbuster -Newcomercontest of Rhineland-Palatinate, which the SWR -Radiosender DASDING is presented. Jupiter Jones played his first major independent appearance in 2004 at the Southside Festival . In October of the same year, the debut album Raum um Raum was released . The title contained on it, tear the grief out of the books , was voted number 1 in the newcomer program Netzparade of the radio station Dasding in 2005 .

In 2007 the second album Either this hideous wallpaper goes - or I do . In cooperation with the Goethe Institute , Jupiter Jones played a 10-day tour in Bulgaria in the same year . The following year there was a festival appearance in Ankara in front of around 7,000 spectators. In 2008 Jupiter Jones played an unplugged concert in the Capuchin monastery in Cochem , which was recorded and was released on DVD and album under the title … Leise . In 2009, the band was one of the “talents” in promoting the Volkswagen Sound Foundation . Since then she has belonged to the so-called Sound Foundation Family. The third studio album, Holiday in Catatonia , was released that year , on which Jana Pallaske can be heard as a guest singer.

In August 2010 the band signed a contract with Columbia Berlin ( Sony ). Mathildas und Titus Tonträger remains involved as a label. The first album on the major label was released on February 25, 2011 under the title Jupiter Jones and contains twelve tracks, including the single Still , which was released on CD on March 4, but previously on the band's website in two versions as Video could be seen (original video and live acoustic performance on ARD). There's also an official music video for Still , and in April 2011, Jupiter Jones made an appearance with the song in a Hand-on-Heart episode . Still became the most played German-language song on German radio in April 2011 and for the whole of 2011.

In May and June 2011 the band performed at the Schlossgrabenfest in Darmstadt as well as at the Hurricane and Southside Festival. June 15, 2011 sang and played the group live on Sat1 morning show her song Always forever , they also in the mission on 1 July 2011. tape on at ZDFkultur presented and already on 12 March 2011 for the Radio Bremen telecast Buten un Binnen . On September 29, 2011 they entered the Bundesvision Song Contest for Rhineland-Palatinate with the song and took sixth place.

On October 5, 2012, a Dutch-language cover version of the song Still by the Zeeland band Bløf was released in the Netherlands under the name Zo stil . The cover version took 14th place in the Dutch charts.

In October 2013, Jupiter Jones released their sixth album The Opposite of All . The first single was released on September 27, 2013, the song races + stumbling , which was able to place in the charts on October 11, 2013. With the release of the new album from March 7th, 2014 to April 26th, 2014, the Das-Contrary-of-All-Tour 2014 should go hand in hand. On March 3, 2014 all dates of the concert tour were canceled because singer Nicholas Müller suffered from anxiety disorders. On May 14, 2014 the band announced on Facebook that Nicholas Müller was leaving the band due to his illness and that it should be continued with a new singer. A friend of the band, Sven Lauer von Caracho , was introduced as the new singer.

In July 2014, the live album Glory.Glory.Hallelujah , which was still recorded with Nicholas Müller, was released and contains the title of all previous albums. Furthermore, the first single was announced together with Lauer for the summer of the same year and plans for a new album were announced.

With the song Suddenly the world stops , Jupiter Jones competed for Rhineland-Palatinate at the Bundesvision Song Contest 2014 on September 20, 2014 and came in second.

The band held a summer and year-end concert every year. As a rule, the summer concerts in Trier took place in the ExHaus , the year-end concerts in Cologne in various locations, for example in the Gloria Theater and in the Live Music Hall . Newcomers like The Bandgeek Mafia were given the opportunity to play in front of a larger audience.

In November 2017, the band announced their breakup on Facebook and on their website; some planned concerts should still take place. The band had their last festival gig on August 19, 2018 in Karben at the Karben Open Air Festival. The last concert was played by Jupiter Jones on September 1st, 2018.

Drummer Hont later became a member of the black metal band Desaster .
