The 21st Echo Award of the German Phono Academy took place on March 22, 2012 in the Berlin Palais am Funkturm . The gala was moderated by Ina Müller and Barbara Schöneberger and broadcast on the television station Das Erste . There were 27 categories at the Echo 2012. The club / dance division, which last existed in 2005, was reintroduced. The crossover category was newly introduced. The industry awards for “Trading Partner of the Year”, “Media Partner of the Year”, “Most Successful Producer / Producer Team National”, “Critics Award” and the “Honorary ECHO for Social Commitment” were presented during a charity dinner organized by the Musik Hilft Foundation on March 21st Presented in 2012.

With 2.58 million TV viewers (market share 9.1 percent), the show reached its lowest level since it was broadcast on ARD and also in previous years on RTL.
