Echo award 2009
The 18 Echo ceremony of the German Phono Academy was held on 21st February 2009 in the Berlin event hall "O 2 World" (now Mercedes-Benz Arena instead). Around 10,000 spectators were able to take part in the event in the arena, which had only opened five months earlier, which was twice as large as in previous years. The award ceremony was moderated by Barbara Schöneberger and Oliver Pocher . As with every Echo Awards, the commercial success of the award winners was crucial. The Echo 2009 was awarded in 27 categories.
After the show was broadcast by RTL from 2000 to 2008 , it was broadcast on ARD television and some ARD radio stations again from 2009, as in the early years . Since RTL broadcast its weekly superstar search show at the same time, the Echo broadcast, with around three million viewers, only had a comparatively low audience rate of 10.6 percent.
