Razorlight is an English rock band around singer Johnny Borrell , the former bassist of the Libertines . With the songs America and Wire to Wire they celebrated their greatest successes worldwide.
history
Johnny Borrell, who wanted to start his own band after his experiences with the Libertines , first recruited the Swede Björn Ågren through an advertisement in 2002. A little later, Carl Dalemo was accepted as the next member. He was also Swede, played guitar in his home country for some time with the band "Spiral Stars" , where he also did the vocals. For Razorlight, however, he switched to bass . Christian Smith-Pancorvo, an Englishman with Peruvian roots, joined Razorlight as a drummer , completing the classic rock band line-up .
The public first found out about Razorlight when host John Kennedy included some of their demos on his program. In the summer of 2003, the band signed a contract with Mercury Records / Universal Music and began recording their first album, which Mercury boss Steve Lillywhite was supposed to produce. However, Lillywhite left the label after a while to produce for the band U2 . John Cornfield was hired as the new producer. After drummer Christian Smith-Pancorvo switched to his brother's band Serafin and was replaced by Andy Burrows , Razorlight released their debut album Up All Night in England in June 2004 , which was also released a little later in Germany. It placed second on the UK charts . The single Somewhere Else made it to number two in the British charts in early 2005. The album does not originally contain the song; after the success of the single it was added to the new edition.
In July 2006 the band released the first single In the Morning from their second album Razorlight, which was released shortly thereafter . The single was at number three in the UK single charts, the album at number one in the album charts for two weeks. The second single, entitled America , made it to number one on the British singles chart shortly after its release in October 2006. The third single Before I Fall to Pieces , released in December 2006, reached number 17.
In 2008 the album Slipway Fires was released , whose lead single Wire to Wire became an international success for the band. The album also made it into the top ten of the respective charts in Germany, Austria and Great Britain. At the beginning of March 2009 the drummer Andy Burrows left the band for personal reasons and released the album Sun Comes Up Again in 2010 with his new band I Am Arrows . Andy David Sullivan chaplain, called "Skully," replaced him. After Andy Burrows, Björn Agren and Carl Dalemo left the band in January 2011. The two founding members were replaced by Gus Robertson on guitar and Freddie Stitz on bass.
In 2014, Razorlight went on tour for the first time since 2011, but without bassist Stitz, who was replaced by 18-year-old Brazilian João Mello, a bandmate of Johnny Borrell's Zazou.
