Jonathan "Johnny" Edward Borrell (born April 4, 1980 in Sutton , London ) is a British musician . He is the singer and frontman of the band Razorlight .

Life and musical career

The young Borrell gained his first band experiences at the age of 17 as a bass guitarist with the student band Violet . After the breakup, he performed cover versions of songs from The Clash or Lead Belly .

Through his friendship with John Hassall and Pete Doherty , members of the band The Libertines , he was accepted as bassist in that formation and took part, among other things, on the debut album Up the Bracket .

However, he soon left the band to put together his own rock band . Through an advertisement he became aware of the Swede Björn Ågren and a short time later he was also able to recruit Christian Smith-Pancorvo as drummer and Carl Dalemo on bass. With this the formation of the band Razorlight was perfect. Although the band line-up changed again and again over time, Borrell remained loyal and always hired new musicians after leaving.

In 2013, after a lengthy artistic break, Borrell released his first solo album Borrell 1 , with which he landed a flop. With only 594 records sold in the first week, he was denied a chart success. Together with his band Zazou , which he founded shortly afterwards , he went on tour that same year and announced another album. It appeared under the name The Atlantic Culture .

He is passionate about cricket and is even a member of the Middlesex County Cricket Club. Borrell is also an avid fan of the Chelsea Football Club .
