Monika Martin
Monika Martin (born May 7, 1962 in Graz ; bourgeois: Ilse Bauer ) is an Austrian singer in the field of hit and popular music .
Career
After graduating from the Graz School of Applied Arts , Monika Martin studied art history and folklore , later solo singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz . From 1986 to 1992 she was the lead singer of the dance band "Heart Breakers" and recorded a CD with the group in 1990 ("I thank you for that"). In the same year she earned her doctorate at the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz for Dr. phil. In 1995 Monika Martin got her own record deal and had her first hit in 1996 with “La Luna Blu”. The title reached second place in the Austrian preliminary decision at the 1996 Grand Prix of Folk Music (then 6th place internationally). At the Grand Prix of Folk Music in 1997 , with the title “Always only longing”, she again came second in the Austrian preliminary decision (again, internationally, 6th place).
In January 1998 she won the super hit parade on ZDF. Her title "Klinge mein Lied" achieved gold status in 1999. In 2000 she recorded the title "My Love" with the Nockalm Quintet and in 2001 with Karel Gott she recorded the title "Never let your dreams get lost". Both titles became hits too. As a result, the singer has been a permanent guest on various television programs for years. On June 17, 2006 she took 3rd place in the Austrian preliminary decision for the Grand Prix of Folk Music 2006 with her song “Today I feel like twenty” . In addition to three other performers, she represented her country once again after 1996 and 1997 at the finals of the Grand Prix of Folk Music. At the Grand Prix of Folk Music 2006 Monika Martin was fourth, behind Rudy Giovannini & Belsy, Vincent & Fernando and Claudia & Alexx . One of the first effects of this further development was the nomination for the ECHO 2006 , a German music award for which the pure sales figures in the international charts give the performers the nomination. Since Monika Martin was the only woman among the ECHO nominees in the “Popular” category, she is currently the most successful soloist in popular music.
Monika Martin was awarded the Golden Tuning Fork in September 2006 . On January 13, 2007 she received the crown of folk music and in September 2008 an award for one million records sold.
