It Won't Be Soon Before Long is the second studio album by the American rock group Maroon 5 . It was released worldwide on May 22, 2007, almost five years after the release of their first album, Songs About Jane .

The title of the album is said to have been a phrase that the five musicians repeated over and over again during their long-running Songs About Jane tour as motivation that it will be over soon. In America, the album landed at number 1 on the Billboard charts , with around 430,000 records sold in the first week.

General

It Won't Be Soon Before Long has a total of twelve songs, but different bonus tracks were co-released depending on the country. In Germany, Austria and a few other countries the album is still available with the bonus title “Infatuation” on it. In the meantime, however, some of the bonus tracks have already been released on the single CDs.

The day of publication is popular for discussion. While it was officially considered that the album was released worldwide on May 22nd, 2007, there are also some countries that had the pleasure a few days earlier or later.

Even before the album was released, the band stated that this album was different from their previous one. It's about love as much as Songs About Jane , but it's not just about a single relationship. The sound is different too, as the band's lead singer Adam Levine says, the album is more energetic and much faster than its predecessor, but still retains the typical Maroon 5 sound. Prince , the Talking Heads and Michael Jackson were among the inspiration for this album .

Adam Levine also explained that this album was a little stronger and, above all, more confident in the lyrical area: "... you can dance to it, there are somehow several sides from which you can look at it."

One reason the album sounds “heavier” than the previous one is because of Maroon 5's new drummer, Matt Flynn. After playing live for Ryan Dusick, the band's actual drummer, for over two years, he became the final drummer in September 2006, as Dusick had to leave the band because of his shoulder problems.

But Dusick is still titled as "Musical Director" on It Won't Be Soon Before Long .

All twelve official album tracks as well as the seven bonus tracks could already be found on the internet before they were released.

The first single was the song Makes Me Wonder in March 2007 , which entered the charts at number 1 or at least in the top ten in many countries. The band was also nominated for "Best Video" at the MTV Video Music Awards for this song , and in February 2008 it even earned them another Grammy .

The second release, Wake Up Call , was almost more successful than Makes Me Wonder , not least because of the sometimes very action-packed video .

On the other hand, Won't Go Home Without You , the third single from the album, needed a little more start-up time before it was even noticed a little, because although it was released in January 2008, radio stations only started in late February or mid-March 2008 Europe (partly also in America) to play the song.

The track Nothing Lasts Forever contains almost the same chorus as in Kanye West's song Heard 'Em Say , which he wrote with Adam Levine. Above all, it surprised many fans that exactly this song is included in the album, although it is already somewhat known thanks to Kanye.

"Cant Stop", the seventh song on the album, was already played live by the band when they appeared as one of the headliners at the Rock-am-Ring Festival in Germany in 2005 .

The eighth track “Goodnight, Goodnight” should be released as the fourth single in summer 2008. The video was already shot. But at the end of April rumors were confirmed that the next single would be the song "If I Never See Your Face Again", a new recording with Rihanna . This video has also been shot and excerpts can be seen on YouTube.

criticism

With the album coming out almost five years after their last album was released, many critics were disappointed that "... you can't do anything better than that in five years". The fact that Songs About Jane sold more than 10 million records also made things difficult. Many critics have said that the music has changed too much and now only what the world wants to hear is being made and that Maroon 5 does not stay true to its style.

Still, there are also good reviews that say It Won't Be Soon Before Long is even better and more mature than its predecessor.
