Songs About Jane is the debut album by the American band Maroon 5 . The title is taken from the name of Adam Levine's ex-girlfriend , Jane Herman. The album was released in June 2002, but it only became well known two years later, which is why it entered the German charts on March 22, 2004.

Emergence

After all band members, with the exception of one, already belonged to the Californian group Kara's Flowers , Levine, Carmichael, Madden and Dusick signed under the name Maroon 5 with the independent label Octone Records , which partly sells under BMG . The band then recorded Songs About Jane at Rumbo Recorders in Los Angeles . The producer was Matt Wallace , who already worked for Train , Blues Traveler and Third Eye Blind . According to Adam Levine, every single song was written under the influence of marijuana.

“During the time between our record deals, I spent a lot of time in New York, where I was exposed to a metropolitan hip-hop culture that could never have happened to me in Los Angeles before. In New York I got to know new genres which influenced my songwriting a lot. "
