Jesse Royal Carmichael (born April 2, 1979 in Boulder , Colorado , USA ) is an American guitarist , keyboardist and background singer for the American band Maroon 5 .

biography

In his early teens, after moving to Los Angeles with his parents, he made music in junior high school with Adam Levine and bassist Mickey Madden . They played influenced by Nirvana and Pearl Jam , among others . After the drummer Ryan Dusick joined the band Kara's Flowers was founded. Carmichael and the three other band members secured a record deal with Reprise Records and recorded their first album. After a year in New York, he returned to LA and met James Valentine , who then became a member of the band. Kara's Flowers later became Maroon 5 , where he recorded the album Songs About Jane with Levine, Madden, Dusick and the newcomer Valentine in 2002 , which reached platinum status in 2004. He also later worked with Maroon 5 on the album It Won't Be Soon Before Long , which was released in 2007 .
