Kelly Kamalelehua Palzis Preston-Travolta (born October 13, 1962 in Honolulu , Hawaii , † July 12, 2020 in Houston , Texas ) was an American actress who had previously worked as a model . She was the wife of John Travolta .

life and career

Preston made a career as a model as a teenager and came to film and television through commercials . In 1980 she first worked in the film business with a guest role in the series Hawaii Five-Zero . Then she was particularly successful with comedies. She had a bigger appearance in 1987 on the side of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito in the comedy Twins .

She never became a big movie star, but she often played the leading actor's partner or crush in popular films such as In Matters of Love , For the Love of Games , and The Guru, especially in the 1990s . One of her most successful films was the critically acclaimed Jerry Maguire - Game of Life , in which she played the fiancée of the title character portrayed by Tom Cruise .

In the new millennium, Preston remained active as an actress in movies and various television series. She played the mother of the main character in family and teenage films several times, such as Amanda Bynes in What Girls Want (2003), Michael Angarano in Sky High - This High School Is Taking Off ! (2005) and by Miley Cyrus in With you by my side (2010). In 2002 she was seen in the music video She Will Be Loved by the band Maroon 5 . In 2006 she starred in the film Broken Bridges on the side of country musician Toby Keith ; Because of him and because of the appearances of Willie Nelson and BeBe Winans , the film enjoyed great popularity on the DVD market in the USA. In 2010 she was the wife of a lobbyist played by Kevin Spacey in Casino Jack . In the last decade of her life, Preston was in front of the camera less often, but at the time of her death, the film Off the Roads with Judi Dench was still in post-production.

In addition to her films, she became known through her personal life. She was married to Kevin Gage from 1985 to 1987 . She was then engaged to be engaged to Charlie Sheen , whom she left in 1990 after he accidentally shot her in the arm. She was married to John Travolta from 1991 until her death . The couple had three children; one son died in 2009 at the age of 16. Like Travolta, she was a member of Scientology . The couple stood together in front of the camera in the films Battlefield Earth - Kampf um die Erde (2000), Old Dogs - Daddy or Deal (2009) and Gotti (2018).

Kelly Preston died of breast cancer on July 12, 2020 at the age of 57 .
