Jerry Maguire - Game of Life is a film directed by Cameron Crowe and shot in the United States in 1996 .

action

Jerry Maguire works extremely successfully as a sports manager for the company "Sports Management International" (SMI). After a tirade typed into his notebook against the dishonesty and lack of humanity in this industry and the company in particular, which he had copies distributed to all the employees' mailboxes and which he himself wanted to have understood as just a "guide", he was fired. He then opened his own agency together with the accountant Dorothy Boyd from SMI, who followed him from the old company because of his mission statement .

In addition to the young football mega talent Frank Cushman, he and his friend Rod Tidwell can take over one of his previous customers. However, this is not exactly successful in terms of sport and is also marked by a broken shoulder. He expects a new million dollar contract from Jerry. During a joint marketing campaign with his last two customers, Jerry cares almost exclusively about young Frank and draws media attention to him, which makes Rod feel abandoned. But when Jerry loses Frank to a former colleague, he has to rely on Rod. Under these conditions and the one-sided dependency, an even closer friendship develops between the two in the course of the film.

Maguire marries Boyd. He's not sure if he really loves her, or just married her because of her loyalty or because of her young son, with whom Maguire gets along very well. The couple put the marriage on hold.

Jerry tries now to Rod and gives him his full attention. However, the sporting success still fails, whereupon they reproach each other and criticize in their actions. Rod is reinstated in an important game after his team has already played a successful season and promptly creates a sensational touchdown . However, he remains motionless on the ground after a tackle followed by a rollover. Detected by the cameras, Jerry runs to him worried. However, Rod is just dazed, gets up again and lets himself be celebrated as a match winner in the stadium. Jerry and Rod are once again moving into the focus of the media as sought-after personalities.

Jerry Maguire now realizes that he is missing his wife and goes to her home. She has a couple of friends over to visit whom he confesses his love to and asks her to start over. She replies that he had already convinced her when he said "Hello".

Reviews

The film has been described as funny and romantic . TV Movie magazine (05/1997) praised Cameron Crowe's directorial work and Tom Cruise's play.

“Thanks to an excellent Tom Cruise, this is a gripping comedy about the meaning of life. However, one learns very little about the work of a sports agent - Cruise could also be in the financial business. Nevertheless, the comedy presents some good sports scenes that make the viewer suffer with the football player. Good supporting characters and original details round off the pleasure. "
