Eric Stoltz
Eric Cameron Stoltz (born September 30, 1961 in Whittier , California ) is an American actor and film director .
Life
Stoltz studied drama at the University of Southern California , but was expelled from the penultimate year. At the time, he shared an apartment with Anthony Edwards , who later became Dr. Mark Green in the television series Emergency Room became known. Stoltz later took acting classes in New York from Stella Adler , William Traylor and Peggy Feury .
After his first television engagements in the late 1970s, he got his first film role in 1982 in the school comedy I think I stand in the forest . In 1985 he was cast for the lead role in the comedy film Back to the Future , but after five weeks of filming his scenes were discarded in favor of actor Michael J. Fox, who was originally favored by the director . He became known in 1985 on the side of singer Cher through his role as Roy L. "Rocky" Dennis in The Mask . His other films include the multiple award-winning Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino , in which he played a drug dealer. He later starred in the doctor series Chicago Hope in 24 episodes from 1998 to 1999. In addition, he appeared in over 20 theater productions and stage readings and the resulting audio books and was involved in radio plays, short films, music videos and his own directing projects, of which My Horrible Year was nominated for a Daytime Emmy .
After individual directorial work from 2001 onwards, Stoltz has been directing television series regularly since 2007, including popular formats such as Grey's Anatomy , Glee , Nip / Tuck - Beauty Has Its Price , Boston Legal , Californication and How to Get Away with Murder .
In addition to his preference for the theater, he is an active supporter of freelance filmmakers and students and regularly works on short films, including a. in Jesus and Hutch (2000) and Hello (2003). For his commitment he received the Indie Supporter Award for Supporting Indie Filmmakers in 1998 , which is presented annually at the Los Angeles Film Festival. He also made a name for himself as a speaker for audio books. For example, he received the Audie Award in 2001 for his reading of Raveling - A Novel of Suspense .
Stoltz has two older sisters, his sister Catherine is an opera singer.
