Madam Secretary is an American television series that aired on CBS from 2014 to 2019 . In the central main role of the US Secretary of State Elizabeth Adams McCord is Téa Leoni to see. One of the executive producers is Morgan Freeman , who has also made a cameo on the series.
In May 2019, CBS extended the series by a ten-part sixth season, which was also the last. This was finally broadcast from October 6th to December 8th, 2019.
action
In Madam Secretary , professor and former CIA analyst Dr. Elizabeth Adams McCord was appointed the new Secretary of State (officially " United States Secretary of State ") by her former head of department, who is now President of the United States . The appointment comes as a surprise after an unexplained plane crash of her predecessor, as McCord did not devote himself to the political events of the day before her appointment. But the president wants a person loyal to him with no previous history in this office.
In the further course of the plot, the main challenge for McCord is to cope with everyday life as Secretary of State, as well as to meet the goals she has set for a work-life balance, since she has three adolescent children Alison and Jason in addition to her husband Henry and Stephanie has. In the further course of the series, the initially light entertainment of everyday political life in Washington and the domestic family life is overshadowed by the fact that McCord uncovered a murder plot against her predecessor, whereby the entanglement could possibly extend to the White House . Her husband, who is also a former CIA employee, is increasingly involved in these storylines.
In terms of foreign policy, McCord's unconventional demeanor has made it possible to achieve some notable successes. Fictitious as well as real scenarios such as the nuclear program of Iran or the debt crisis in Greece are discussed in the action . Several subsidiary threads in the series are devoted to the State Department staff and the evolving relationships of the various characters. In particular, involvement of employees from the time before the start of the series action play a role.
Trivia
The main characters of the series, Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, have also been in a private life since December 2014.
The first episode of the fourth season of News Cycle sparked a sharp protest from East Timor's Minister of State and Nobel Peace Prize winner José Ramos-Horta . "It is a slander against a country that only shows ignorance and racism," he said. As a result, the border disputes between Australia and East Timor in the Timor Sea (in the series they are moved to the South China Sea ) are taken up. With a Mexican drug cartel taking control of the country in history, Secretary of State McCord is asking China to take action to prevent the drug cartel leader from turning East Timor into a drug state .
