The Futon Critic is a website that provides articles and information on prime time programming on radio and cable television in the United States . The website publishes reviews of prime-time programming and interviews with people in the television industry, as well as the publication of Nielsen Ratings reports and press releases provided by television networks. The Futon Critic was founded in 1997 by Brian Ford Sullivan.

Brian Ford Sullivan, CEO of Futon Media, registered The Futon Critic on January 14, 1997. Since its inception, the site has published reviews of prime-time programming and interviews with television professionals. The website also contains sections of articles covering press releases , network schedulers, and Nielsen ratings . These were taken from articles in The Huffington Post , for example . The publications of the Nielsen rating data on the website have also been used as a source by institutions such as the University of Colorado Boulder and Temple University .

In 2009, Sullivan appeared on WGN's The Nick Digilio Show for a TV talk show and the Emmy Nominations of the Year . In 2010, Sullivan announced a new section of its website to track the availability of programs on digital distribution platforms, to be launched in August of that year. He also announced the production of a pilot film .
