Public policy

Public Policy ( German state activity ) is a term of political science and the sum of substantive decisions, objectives and activities referred to the in the political process participants.

It is also an interdisciplinary political science subject that deals with issues in the area of tension between politics, economy and society.

Training content

The training usually consists of three areas:

Analysis and methodology skills, for example

Quantitative analysis
Empirical methods
Economic analyzes and models

Leadership and management skills, for example

Strategic management in the public sector
Financial management in the public sector
Skills for political action and political leadership (" Leadership ")
Negotiation analysis and negotiation management
Public communication
Ethical issues in the public sector

Expertise, for example

International relations , foreign and security policy
Development policy
European politics
Social , labor and health policy
Economic policy

Training opportunities in Germany

The Hertie School of Governance in Berlin, the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster offer a two-year course leading to a Master of Public Policy.

In addition, there are other universities in Germany that offer courses with "Public Policy" as part of the course designation. For example, the Duisburg NRW School of Governance with a two-year master’s course in "Political Management, Public Policy and Public Administration" and the Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen with the BA and MA courses "Politics, Administration & International Relations" with a focus on "Public Management & Policy, Regulation & E-Government ".
