history

Until 2005, the post of Director of the Central Intelligence Agency was tied to that of Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) . The Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) was both administrative head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and coordinator for all 16 US intelligence services , the so-called Intelligence Community .

The office is split into DCIA and DNI

As a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the 9/11 Commission Report recommended splitting the office of Director of Central Intelligence into the offices of Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and Director of National Intelligence (DNI) . President George W. Bush enforced this with the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act (IRTPA) and thus also created the office of Director of National Intelligence .

He administratively heads the operations of the CIA. He is assisted by his deputy director , the five heads of the CIA's directorates and other advisors such as the chief operating officer , the director of public affairs and the general counsel of the CIA.

He reports to the Director of National Intelligence and reports regularly to him and to the President of the United States . Since the presidency of Donald Trump, the post of director of the CIA has had cabinet rank . He is currently paid an annual fee of $ 187,000.
