The deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency (Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, DDCIA) is a government official of the United States of America and senior executive of the US Foreign Intelligence Service Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The current incumbent is Vaughn Bishop .

history

Under the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of November 2004, in which the office of Director of Central Intelligence (DCI ) was split into the offices of Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (DCIA) and Director of National Intelligence (DNI) the office of the Deputy Director of Central Intelligence (DDCI) was also split into the offices of Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (DDCIA) and that of Deputy Director of National Intelligence (DDNI).

Officially, it is up to the director of the Central Intelligence Agency who he appoints as his deputy. However, the opinion of the president plays a fundamental role in filling the post.

In contrast to the appointment of the director, under current law, the appointment of the deputy director does not require the approval of the US Senate .

task

The main task of the deputy director is to support the director in all of his actions. He can perform the duties of the director if the office of the director is vacant or if the director is ill, unable to work and unable to work. It is also up to the director of the CIA to decide which other special tasks he will hand over to his deputy.
