action

Mary Jane O'Malley is a divorced woman, single mother, and a Captain in the US Marines . She kills her boss, Major Nelson Gray - allegedly in self-defense after Gray broke into her home. O'Malley is arrested. It turns out that O'Malley and the married Gray were having an affair. The woman is charged.

Past events are shown in flashbacks . At the first meeting, O'Malley heard from Gray that his favorite thing was to train officers whom he could take with him on war missions . However, the women are prohibited from combat missions.

O'Malley is in command of a transport column during an exercise. The vehicles are attacked from an ambush - far from the place where the practiced combat should take place. O'Malley organizes a successful counterattack, but is criticized by Gray.

Later, O'Malley and Gray meet privately, they secretly become lovers, until it becomes more and more apparent that Gray has psychological problems and a. has kept quiet that he has a wife. After an incident at a firing range in which Gray tries to intimidate O'Malley, which is watched by her subordinates, she ends the relationship. Some time later, Gray breaks into her for the first time at night and tells her about the first person he killed. He emphasizes that one kill (original title of the film) is enough and that you can't go back afterwards. When he picks up her children from kindergarten and gives her son ammunition, she warns him to stay away from her and her children. That same night he breaks into her camouflage clothing and a face mask and threatens her. O'Malley manages to get her gun and shoot Gray - something he apparently had planned.

As the trial progresses, it emerges that the Marine Corps is trying to protect Senior Officer Gray by covering up evidence and making O'Malley's subordinates false testimony. When files containing the original statements from the incident at the firing range are leaked to the attorney and O'Malley makes her testimony, the tide turns and she is acquitted.

The film ends with O'Malley being forced to quit the Marine Corps. From the text that appears, one learns that she is opening a car repair shop as a civilian.
