Sam Shepard
Sam Shepard (born November 5, 1943 in Fort Sheridan , Lake County , Illinois - † July 27, 2017 in Midway , Woodford County , Kentucky ; born Samuel Shepard Rogers VII ) was an American playwright and actor .
life and career
Shepard grew up on a ranch in California . After briefly studying agriculture , he went to New York in the early 1960s . There he came into contact with the theater and began writing his first plays, which were initially staged by student theater groups in small theaters off Broadway .
At the end of the 1960s he wrote the screenplay for the film Zabriskie Point with Michelangelo Antonioni .
The 1960s music scene attracted Shepard. He played drums in the rock band The Holy Modal Rounders and joined the hippie movement. In 1969 he married the actress O-Lan Jones; In 1970 he became a father. In addition to his marriage, he lived with the rock singer Patti Smith . His marriage ended in divorce in 1984.
Shepard went to London in the early 1970s . There he wrote numerous pieces that became underground successes. His friends during this time included the band members of The Who and The Rolling Stones . He played drums on a Mick Jagger project . In the mid-1970s, back in the USA, Shepard worked with Bob Dylan , played his first film roles - previously only devoted to the film as a screenwriter - and went on tour with Dylan and his Rolling Thunder Revue . From the late 1970s he was regularly active as a film actor and was involved in more than 60 film and television productions.
While filming Frances (about the life of actress Frances Farmer ) he met Jessica Lange in 1982 ; they were a couple until 2010. In 1987, Shepard played one of the leading roles in Woody Allen's September . However, Allen was so dissatisfied with the result that he repeated the film with a new cast. Shepard directed Silent Tongue in 1994 , the last film with River Phoenix .
After being charged with drunk driving in 2009 and fined for participating in an alcohol abuse program, social work and two-year surveillance, Shepard was arrested again on May 25, 2015 for the same offense.
Sam Shepard died in July 2017 at the age of 73; Complications in connection with an ALS disease were named as the cause of death . His fellow actor Matthew McConaughey learned of the actor's death during an interview on the red carpet and was dismayed: “Damn, we lost one of the great ones. Great writer, great mind. "(German:" Damn, we have lost one of the greatest. Great author, great personality ")

The aging rock star loses his rank mainly because he has an identity and is not just the image of a person others see in him. In addition, many well-known rock titles are incorporated, which serve to characterize the two protagonists. Shepard and his band contributed pieces to the drama himself - the drama should always be performed on stage with a band, as in the world premiere in 1972 in the "Open Space" in London. In 1976 the new version The Tooth of Crime 2nd Dance appeared; it contains new musical compositions.
