Felon ( English for 'criminal') is a 2008 American drama directed by Ric Roman Waugh .

action

Worker Wade Porter plans to open his own shop. One day a man breaks into the house where Wade, his fiancée Laura and their son Michael live. Wade followed the fugitive over the doorstep into the open and knocked him down with a baseball bat in the front yard, fearing that the perpetrator might want to draw a gun. However, since the perpetrator only wanted to pull the stolen wallet out of his pocket and did not carry a weapon, the police officer who was summoned by Laura judged that Wade had exceeded the limit of self-defense by killing the man and was arrested. First he is charged with murder. When the charges are changed to negligent manslaughter , Wade pleads guilty, for which he is offered a reduced sentence. But during the transport of the prisoners - after one inmate attacked another - he was slipped the attacker's weapon, whereupon Wade ended up in the prison's high-security wing . He is also sentenced to a longer prison term because the attacked inmate succumbs to his injuries and Wade is accused of complicity in murder . In prison, Lt. Jackson tormented, who lets the prisoners fight each other when they are released in the security wing and does not shy away from serious bodily harm and murder himself, since he only sees scum in the prisoners. When Wade is assigned the multiple murderer Smith as a cell mate and the two become friends after a while, a trick and the help of a still new and law-abiding prison guard manage to inform the FBI of these brutal attacks. Just before the FBI arrives at the prison, Lt. Jackson still kills Wade, but is in turn killed by Smith with a small knife. Smith is then shot dead by a guard. Wade is reset to his original sentence based on the video recordings of these events and his testimony in court and soon sees his family again.

Reviews

Stephen Farber wrote in The Hollywood Reporter on July 16, 2008 that Felon was included in the convention of prison films made since 1930. The direction was energetic, the actors showed full commitment and the “stars of yesterday” among them confirmed their quality. The film is a solid " B-movie " that its main audience will enjoy. The best portrayal is offered by Val Kilmer , who gives the character played a tragic dimension. The film made "excellent" use of the locations. His cut is "razor-sharp" ; the atmosphere in the prison was reproduced with a "crushing intensity" .
