Six people spend a weekend together in a cabin in Vermont. Among them is the actress Diane, who married several times, most recently Lloyd. Their daughter Lane is in love with the writer Peter. Lane invited her friend Stephanie over.
There are romantic entanglements; every person loves - mostly unrequited - someone else.
Reviews
Roger Ebert wrote that the film shows different ways in which love can be won and lost. The structure of the plot corresponds more to an old comedy than a modern drama.

Allen initially shot the film with Sam Shepard , Charles Durning and Maureen O'Sullivan in the lead roles, but was then so dissatisfied with the result that he shot the entire film again with other actors.
The drama was shot in a studio in New York City on a budget of $ 10,000,000. The film grossed less than $ 500,000. It opened in US cinemas on December 18, 1987, and in Germany on March 31, 1988.
