The Vocational Training Center Schleswig (BBZ Schleswig) comprises several full-time schools and vocational schools in Schleswig and Kappeln with a total of 3823 pupils (school year 2014/2015).

The first beginnings of the District Vocational School (KBS) were made in 1831. Initially only male craftsmen and apprentices were taught here.
On October 2, 1843, 43 students were taught in five classes in the newly founded trade school in the old Wilhelminenschule . The number of students rose to 112 in 1852.
From 1864 onwards, lessons were continued in the girls' school Domziegelhof 23. With a special focus on drawing lessons, this school was converted into a general advanced training school in 1874. In 1906 a home for apprentices was built and from 1911 there was also the opportunity to train bakers , barbers , carpenters , fabric workers and unskilled workers. 1916–1921 various new subject classes were introduced, e. B. the specialist class for electricians and painters .
In 1934 girls who were supposed to be trained in the household started school.
The KBS was set up in 1941 and merged with the vocational school in 1951. In 1959, they moved to the new building in Flensburger Strasse. In 1970 the Fachgymnasium was established , which was renamed the "Berufliche Gymnasium". This grammar school is based on different focuses, which are "economy", "nutrition", "technology" and "health".
From 2002 to 2006, the KBS was further developed on the way to becoming a vocational training center and a cooperation school for the Schleswig-Flensburg district . In 2006 the school celebrated its 175th anniversary.
With effect from January 1st, 2008, the Schleswig-Flensburg district established the "Schleswig-Flensburg Vocational Training Center - Regional Vocational Training Center of the Schleswig-Flensburg District - Legal institution under public law". The Schleswig vocational training center, together with the RBZ Eckener-Schule in Flensburg, is the first vocational school in Germany that works legally independently. The work is monitored by a board of directors, chaired by the district administrator of the Schleswig-Flensburg district. The managing director and headmaster is the principal studies director Hans Hermann Henken.
The school has branches in Kappeln / Schlei, Süderbrarup , Kropp , Tarp and Erfde . Educational offers: Training preparation year to obtain the first general school leaving certificate Vocational schools to obtain the intermediate educational qualification (focus on economics, technology, health and nutrition, social affairs) and to obtain the technical college entrance qualification (vocational school social pedagogy, vocational school for commercial assistants) technical college for economics and technical college for Achievement of the technical college entrance qualification for vocational high school (focus on economics, health, technology, nutrition) to obtain the general university entrance qualification or the technical college entrance qualification for the technical college for social pedagogy for the training of state-recognized educators Technical school for curative education care for the training of curative educators
In addition, the Schleswig vocational training center has set up work academies in Schleswig and Kappeln (JobKom).
