Dinkytown

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dinkytown is an area near Marcy Holmes in Minneapolis , Minnesota , in the United States . The district is home to many small businesses, restaurants, bars and residential complexes that are often inhabited by students. Dinkytown is located north of the University of Minnesota campus.

Dinkytown is home to notable landmarks such as the Dinky Dome , the Loring Pasta Bar (a house where Bob Dylan once lived but which was later converted into a drugstore and ultimately a restaurant.), The Purple Onion (a café in the Dylan supposedly had a gig, which has now closed.) And Al's Breakfast (the smallest restaurant in town.). The main street of Dinkytown (4th Street) was supposedly Dylan's inspiration for the piece of music "Positively 4th Street". Bob Dylan also lived on West 4th Street in New York City some time later .

Although the origin of the name "Dinkytown" is not clear, it was probably taken from the "Dinkytown Business Association", which was founded in 1948 .

Origin of name

  • Because of the cars (so-called Dinkys) which drove through the area (today's Dinkytown).
  • Because of the tenders on the platform, which are also called Dinkys.
  • The Dinkytown theater had only four rows of seats. These four rows were called "The Dinky".
  • For many people in America, small cities are unimportant or unimportant. Hence the name "Dinky" (unimportant)
