Narrow gauge crook is a 2000 comedy film directed by Woody Allen .
action
The married couple Ray and Frenchy Winkler and their accomplices Denny and Benny want to rob a bank by digging a tunnel to the vault. They camouflage the company by Frenchy opening a cookie bakery two doors down, from whose basement the tunnel is driven. While the robbery fails in a grotesque way, the cookie business flourishes to an unexpected extent and becomes a gushing source of money. After building a successful cookie company, Frenchy falls victim to fraudulent accountants and goes bankrupt. The plot is woven between Frenchy and David, a well-educated and well-trained upstart who is hired by Frenchy to bring the Winkler couple culturally up to their current social status. Looking for fortune, he tries to develop a relationship with Frenchy, but abruptly abandons his venture when he learns of their bankruptcy. In the end, Winkler's soaring is over and Ray and Frenchy have landed on the ground together. Ray, who disliked the climb anyway, is more comfortable with it than his wife. The plot is reminiscent of the Grimm fairy tale Vom Fischer and his wife .

- Kulturspiegel 12/2000: “Once again, Woody Allen shows that you can experience all kinds of things in New York: a dishwasher wants to rob a bank, his wife sells cookies next door to cover up. Unfortunately, Allen's criminal energy is only enough for platitudes: Money doesn't make you happy; You can't buy taste. Inconsistent mixture of gentleness of old age and powerless self-citations. "
