Matthew David McConaughey [ ˈmæθjuː məˈkɑnəheɪ̯ ] (born November 4, 1969 in Uvalde , Texas ) is an American actor . He won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2014 for his role in Dallas Buyers Club .

Life

McConaughey grew up in Longview , Texas. His father Jim worked in the oil industry and his mother Katherine was a substitute teacher. He has two older brothers named Michael and Patrick. He studied law at the University of Texas at Austin , but dropped out. He later studied film at the same university and graduated in 1993.

Acting career

McConaughey starred in commercials at the beginning of his career and had his first minor role in the film Confusion - Summer of the Freaky . He has been in a relationship with the Brazilian model Camila Alves since 2007 . The engagement took place on December 25, 2011 and the marriage followed in June 2012. The couple have three children together, two sons and a daughter. In 2008 the first son was born.
