Former professional baseball player Kenny Powers is forced to return to his hometown of Shelby , North Carolina after the embarrassing end of his sports career and a few lousy years without fame . There he lives with his brother Dustin, his wife and three children, all of whom tolerate him more than show him hospitality. He is hired as a PE teacher at his former school and immediately falls in love with the physical charms of his high school date, who is now a teacher and has become engaged to the principal. Kenny sees the chance to build on his former star cult in the environment of willing students.

The series was produced by the production company of the actor Will Ferrell and the director Adam McKay , which already made the film The Stepbrothers .

United States

The series opened on HBO with 671,000 viewers on the first episode and 904,000 viewers on the sixth and final episode of season one. This increase in viewers encouraged HBO to commission a second season, which has aired since September 26, 2010. On October 27, 2010, it was announced that HBO had commissioned a third season. In March 2011 it was announced that the third season would be the last, which aired from February 19 to April 15, 2012. However, in early July 2012, HBO ordered a fourth season consisting of 8 episodes. June 7, 2013 was announced as the start of production for the fourth season. This fourth season, which has now been announced as the last, was broadcast from September 29 to November 17, 2013.

The pay channel Sky Atlantic HD Eastbound & Down has been broadcasting in Germany since August 21, 2013. The first three seasons are shown one after the other.
