The British RELX Group (formerly Reed Elsevier ) is one of the largest media groups in the world. It acts as a provider of online - databases , digital analysis tools for the legal, financial analysis and science and distributes publications. The group employs more than 30,000 people in over 40 countries.

Reed Elsevier was formed in January 1993 from the merger of Reed International and Elsevier NV. Until July 2015, the company was a dual-listed company , consisting of the British Reed Elsevier plc, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. and the Dutch company Reed Elsevier NV, listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. The British company was included in the FTSE 100 , the Dutch company in the AEX index . Both companies were also listed on the New York Stock Exchange . From the end of 2014, the entire operative business of the two companies was gradually merged into a single company with its registered office and stock exchange listing in London , in which Reed Elsevier plc holds 52.9% and Reed Elsevier NV 47.1%. On July 1, 2015, the UK company was renamed RELX plc and the Dutch company RELX NV.

Reed Elsevier is also a major shareholder in Babylon Ltd., the company that develops and markets the Babylon Translator .

  • Economics and Law are of LexisNexis serves.
  • Training was overseen by Harcourt, Inc.
  • Business with all English-language trade journals is handled by the Reed Business Information (RBI) publishing house .

In the trade show business, Reed Elsevier operates a joint venture with the Chinese pharmaceutical and medical technology company Sinopharm called Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions Co. Ltd., in which both groups hold a 50% stake.

On May 4, 2007, it was announced that the Harcourt Assessment and Harcourt Education International divisions would be sold to British competitor Pearson plc for EUR 700 million . were sold.
