The Koninklijke KPN NV or (English) Royal KPN NV (in German Royal Post and Telephone Company ) is a listed Dutch telecommunications group , which emerged from the privatization of the former state-owned company PTT in 1998. Since 2006, the Dutch state has no longer held a stake in KPN . The abbreviation KPN stands for Koninklijke PTT Nederland . The headquarters of KPN was originally The Hague , in 2017 the move with 2000 employees to the new KPN Tower at Kop van Zuid in Rotterdam took place .

Since 2000, the mobile communications subsidiary KPN Mobile has owned the third-largest German mobile network operator E-Plus . E-Plus was sold in September 2014 for 5 billion euros to the Spanish Telefónica , which owned the fourth-largest German mobile operator Telefónica O 2 . KPN held a 20.5% stake in the merged company.

Furthermore, SNT Deutschland AG belonged to KPN, which until 2011 handled all customer service units including management of the mobile phone provider E-Plus / Base. In February 2015, the company was sold to the LIVIA Group by its former parent company KPN . In April 2008, the German mobile communications discounter blau Mobilfunk was taken over and sold to E-Plus on January 1, 2013 .

América Móvil has held a stake of 16.08% in the company since June 2012 (as of 2018).

Services from cell phone discounters are implemented in the KPN network . This includes, for example, Aldi Talk, a tariff offer from Aldi Nord that is implemented by MEDIONmobile and has been exclusively represented in the KPN network since 2009.

KPN was the owner of the Belgian cellular network BASE from 2000 to 2015 . KPN's competitors in the Netherlands are T-Mobile Netherlands , Ziggo and Vodafone .
