Adyen is a Dutch service provider in the field of payment processing based in Amsterdam . The company's shares are part of the Euronext 100 share index .

Pieter van der Does and Arnout Schuijff were among the founders of Adyen in 2006. The founders considered the systems for digital payment processing that existed at the time to be outdated and recognized a market niche in the development of new payment platforms. The company name Adyen comes from the Creole language Sranan and means something like "to start over". Early investors included Mark Zuckerberg , Jack Dorsey and the Singapore sovereign wealth fund Temasek . The company has had a European banking license since 2017 . In 2018, the company was valued at $ 2.3 billion, making it one of Europe's largest unicorns .

With the Adyens software, various payment methods can be offered in stationary retail , online and mobile . The final payment is also processed through the company.
