ASM International NV is a Dutch mechanical engineering company that develops and builds production equipment for the semiconductor industry , such as atomic layer deposition equipment .
ASM (Advanced Semiconductor Materials) was founded in 1968 by Arthur del Prado. Arthur del Prado was born in 1931 in the Dutch East Indies and temporarily spent the war years in a Japanese prison camp. After the war, del Prado studied chemistry in Enschede and economics in Amsterdam. After founding his company, he focused on systems for chemical vapor deposition . In 1981, ASM became the first Dutch company to be listed primarily on the NASDAQ . In 1984, ASM International founded a joint venture with Philips , which became successful under the name ASML (ASM Lithography).
