Next plc is a trading company listed on the London Stock Exchange , ISIN GB0032089863, with its main office in Enderby ( Blaby District ).

The company is one of the UK’s largest clothing retailers and is number three in the sector after Marks & Spencer and the British Home Stores and Arcadia Group, led by Philip Green. Next currently has over 400 stores in the UK and Ireland . Around 57,450 people are employed at Next.

Next was founded in 1982 after J Hepworth & Son opened a women's fashion store in Leeds in 1981 . Two years later, Next opened its first men's fashion store. In the years that followed, many new shops for women's, men's and children's fashion were opened. 1986 Next acquired the fashion catalog company Grattan , which was sold to Otto-Versand in 1991 . At the beginning of the 1990s, Next's economic situation developed negatively, so that some stores, such as Grattan, were sold.
