Reckitt Benckiser [ 'rɛ.kɪt' bɛn.kizər ] ( ) is a publicly traded manufacturer of cleaning products and household goods . The head office is in Slough , west of London . The company operates in over 60 countries. In German-speaking countries, the branches for Germany are in Heidelberg , for Austria in Vienna and for Switzerland in Wallisellen .
Company history
Reckitt Benckiser was formed in 1999 through a merger of the British listed company Reckitt & Colman with the Dutch company Benckiser, which was also listed on the stock exchange. The German Reimann family , whose family business Joh. A. Benckiser GmbH Benckiser went back to, became the main shareholder of the combined group after the merger, initially with around 25% of the shares. The family has gradually sold its shares and at the end of 2018 only held 0.7% through its family holding company , JAB Holding .
- The Colman company was founded in 1814 by Jeremiah Colman in Norwich , England, in the form of a flour mill.
- Johann A. Benckiser founded a salmiak hut in Pforzheim in 1823 .
- Isaac Reckitt ran a mill in Hull , England in 1840.
- In 1938 Reckitt & Sons merged with J&J Colman and the company Reckitt & Colman Ltd. originated.
- 1999 Reckitt & Colman and Benckiser merge to become Reckitt Benckiser.
- 2005 Acquisition of Boots' OTC pharma operations
- In 2007 Reckitt sold its German business with prescription skin creams (Hermal) for 375 million euros to the Spanish drug manufacturer Almirall .
- In 2010 Reckitt Benckiser acquired the British consumer goods manufacturer SSL International with brands such as Durex and Scholl.
- In 2012, Reckitt Benckiser bought the nutritional supplement maker Schiff Nutrition for $ 1.4 billion.
- In 2017, Reckitt Benckiser sells its food division to the US spice manufacturer McCormick & Company
