history
From 58 BC The first forms of settlement in today's area are known. The community of Wallisellen did not have its origins until around 400 and 700 AD, after the Great Migration. According to the interpretation of name research, Wallisellen is a combination of the two parts "Walchen" and "Seller". The Germanic peoples referred to their Celtic and Romanesque neighbors as "Walchen" (see Walensee ; Lake of the Walchen). The word “seller” stands for immigrant farmers, clearly differentiating it from long-established farmers who usually run a small, modest farm. The name is interpreted in such a way that Franconians or Alamanni gave the name "Wallisellen" to a small farming settlement that was inhabited or at least founded by immigrant Celts or Romans .
With the inauguration of the Zurich – Wallisellen – Winterthur NOB line on June 25, 1856, Wallisellen and its station were connected to the Swiss railway network. In 1916 the previously independent municipality of Rieden was assigned to the municipality of Wallisellen. This is mainly due to the pressure of the First World War and the associated compulsion to optimize all authorities. In the interwar years, Wallisellen developed from a village to a suburb, but never accepted town charter and remained a “village”.
During the Second World War in Wallisellen the cultivation battle ( plan elections ) was carried out on a large scale . In 1958 the church of St. Antonius was built.
After 1950, in addition to the already existing industry, an ever-growing service economy developed, which reached its peak with the construction and extension of the Glatt shopping center , the largest in Switzerland, in the 1980s . Large parts of the cultivated land were lost for buildings and residential quarters, in the east not much is missing in order to grow together with the neighboring municipality of Dietlikon, in the northwest the quarters of Wallisellen and Opfikon are no longer far apart. In 2014, a new quarter, “Richti” , was completed on a former industrial wasteland between Wallisellen station and the Glatt shopping center . The block edge development requires 72,000 square meters and offers apartments for 1,200 as well as workplaces for over 3,000 people.

economy
Today Wallisellen is an attractive location for companies and shops thanks to public transport and good motorway connections. Various international companies such as Microsoft , Cisco , Ford Motor Company , UPC Switzerland and NCR have their Swiss headquarters in Wallisellen. Despite this, Wallisellen is still home to eleven farms. Well-known companies such as Katadyn , Integra Signum or Chocolat Halba have historically emerged and grown in Wallisellen. The old building of the Hotel Linde at the train station was sacrificed together with the partly not very old new buildings for a complete redesign of the Wallisellen train station, which unites the SBB train station with the newly constructed Glattalbahn . Thus the Hotel Belair remains as the only inn in Valais. In November 2013, Allianz Suisse moved its previous administrative offices to the new headquarters on the Richti site in Wallisellen. Reishauer is a company in the machine industry based in Wallisellen .

- Written German translation: "Count, peel the onions, the cat goes to Wallisellen, comes back home, has crooked legs, puff puff puff and you're (honestly) out".
