The Dietikon station of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is the station of the city of Dietikon , a suburb of Zurich , and is located on the Zurich – Baden railway line of the Spanish Brötli Railway, which opened in 1847 . With the opening of the Bremgarten-Dietikon-Bahn in 1902, it became an important transfer station.
Track systems
Today's track systems of the SBB consist of six station tracks. Track 1 is on the house platform. This is where the S11 and S19 trains turn, which are no longer continued and whose terminus is Dietikon. While track 2 is a through track and is mainly used by freight trains to and from the Limmattal marshalling yard , tracks 3 and 4 are on a common central platform; this is where the S-Bahn depart, which serve the station as an intermediate station. Only the IR36 stops at tracks 5 and 6, which also share a central platform. As a rule, all long-distance trains on the Zurich – Brugg – Basel and Zurich – Olten – Bern / Biel routes run here.
The track systems of the Bremgarten-Dietikon-Bahn are located east of the station building and consist of two tracks on a central platform.

The first building, built in 1847, has survived to this day; This is mainly because it was built on the "wrong" side of the route, i.e. on the Limmat side and not facing the city. When the construction of the new station building on the city side began in 1866, it lost its function as a station building the following year, but was retained as a residential building and is now used by railroad fans as a club.
The second building, built between 1866 and 1867 by the Nordostbahn according to plans by Jakob Friedrich Wanner , corresponds to that of the Amriswil train station, although a side wing was left out.
The third station building was built in 1976 by architect Walter Moser in connection with the expansion of the Dietikon – Zurich Altstetten line to four lanes and the construction of the Limmattal marshalling yard. It is located approx. 200 meters to the west of the old second station building, which was demolished after the new station building was completed. The building is a modern concrete structure, on the ground floor of which are the operating rooms and sales areas as well as a station buffet. There are apartments in the upper part of the multi-storey building. Dietikon train station would have been the western terminus of the Zurich U-Bahn , with the tracks being at the level of the first floor of the reception building. The project failed in a referendum in 1973.

Long-distance transport
The station is served hourly by a long-distance line, which has also been running via Zurich HB since the 2015 timetable change .

Zurich S-Bahn
Since the introduction of the Zurich S-Bahn in 1990, the S-Bahn trains have been the main mode of transport in Dietikon station.

- S 12 Brugg - Altstetten - Zurich HB - Stadelhofen - Winterthur - Schaffhausen / Wil

- S 19 ( Koblenz - Baden -) Dietikon - Zurich HB - Wallisellen - Effretikon (- Pfäffikon ZH ) only runs on weekdays. Koblenz - Dietikon and Effretikon - Pfäffikon ZH only during rush hour
- S 42 ( Zurich HB - Dietikon - Wohlen - Muri ) only runs during rush hour.
During rush hour, several accelerated, unnumbered S-Bahn trains served the station. Since the timetable change in December 2015, they have been run as S19 and S42. While the S11 continues every hour to Aarau (except during rush hour from Monday to Friday), the trains on the other sections of the line run every half hour. The S17 runs from Monday to Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. between Dietikon and Bremgarten West every quarter of an hour.
The train station is an important hub for regional bus transport operated by the Limmat Bus company.
