Jakob Friedrich Wanner (born April 28, 1830 in Illingen (Württemberg) ; † January 24, 1903 in Zurich ) was a Swiss architect of German origin.

Life

After training as a draftsman and construction manager in Stuttgart , Friedrich Wanner was an architect from 1857 to 1860 for the Swiss Northeast Railway (NOB), which was under the direction of the railway pioneer Alfred Escher . As part of this activity, various station buildings were built (including Frauenfeld , Winterthur ).

After a short time as the city architect of Zurich , he returned to the Nordostbahn as chief architect in 1861. Until 1871 a. a. the train stations of Zug (moved to Zurich-Wollishofen in 1897 ), Schaffhausen (together with the Grand Ducal Baden State Railways ) and Zurich main station (using a project by Gottfried Semper ).

His work as an architect at the NOB confronted him on the one hand with the standard types and their variations that were used in the construction of smaller train stations, as well as the complex train stations in the more important locations, in particular with the NOB's "flagship", Zurich main station, the was both a train station and an administration building.

In 1867 he became a citizen of Zurich. From 1872 to 1877 he built the headquarters of the Schweizerische Kreditanstalt (today's Credit Suisse ), which was also headed by Alfred Escher . From 1878 Wanner worked as a freelance architect.
