Hedingen ( Zurich German : Hedige [ˈhedigə] ) is a municipality in the Affoltern district of the Swiss canton of Zurich .

geography

Hedingen is located in the southwest of the canton of Zurich and, at 6.59 km 2 , is the sixth smallest municipality in the Affoltern district after Wettswil am Albis , Maschwanden , Ottenbach , Knonau and Rifferswil . The hamlets Fromoos and Ismatt belong to the community. Hedingen is 13 kilometers from Zurich by air and 17 kilometers from Zug .

Neighboring communities from the northeast, clockwise, are: Bonstetten ZH , Stallikon and Affoltern am Albis , and in the canton of Aargau ( Bremgarten district ) Jonen , Arni AG and Islisberg .

geology

From a geological point of view, Hedingen is located in the molasse basin of the Swiss plateau . In the course of the Tertiary , the basin was filled with debris from the emerging Alps , whereby the sediments can be divided into different layers. Deposits under marine conditions are referred to as sea molasses, those under fluvial conditions as fresh water molasses . The community lies west of the Albis mountain range in a moraine landscape that opens up towards the Reuss plain .

Hedingen and the other communities in the Affoltern district were given the decisive influence on the landscape by the advance of the Reuss Glacier during the various ice ages . The glacier deepened and widened existing valleys and created new valleys. The decisive watercourse is the Hofibach, which rises in Hedingen and flows into the Jonenbach .

climate

Hedingen is in the temperate climate zone . The climate is shaped on the one hand by the winds from western directions, which often bring precipitation , and on the other hand by the bise (east or north-east wind), which is usually associated with high pressure, but brings cooler weather phases in all seasons than would be expected on average. The foehn , which is important in the Alpine valleys and on the edge of the Alps , does not normally show any special climatic effects on Hedingen. The closest MeteoSwiss climate measuring stations are in Lucerne and Zurich-Affoltern , 13 and 27 km away, respectively. Both stations deliver approximately the same values. This results in an average annual temperature of 8.7 ° C for Hedingen. The coldest month is January with -0.4 ° C, the warmest is July with 21.0 ° C. The amount of precipitation is around 1100 mm per year, with higher amounts being measured in the three summer months than in winter due to the convective precipitation .

history

Archaeological finds show traces of settlement from the 7th / 8th centuries. Century BC A settlement from Roman times was found on the Kreuzrain. The name "Hedingen" is made up of the Old High German personal name Hadu, Hado and the suffix -ing and comes from the time of the Alemannic conquest in the 6th / 7th. Century; its meaning is "with the people, the clan of Hadu / Hado". The current church was built in 1510, its predecessor in 10/11. Century. Around 1116 the church and village belonged to the Pfäfers monastery , to which Hedingen was subordinate to the lower court .

Hedingen Castle, first mentioned in 1298, was behind the church. It is not known whether the von Hedingen knight dynasty , who lived in the 13th and 14th centuries, lived in the castle. Hedingen owned high court to the Zurich Open Office and was in Zurich in 1512 Landvogtei Knonau incorporated.

The crisis at the end of the 17th century forced over 200 people from the Knonaueramt, 77 of them from Hedingen, to emigrate to Brandenburg .
