Lexicon of Swiss municipality names
The Lexicon of Swiss Community Names (LSG) is a reference work on names.
Origin of the project
The basis for the publication is the “Onoma” project supported by the National Fund, which was presented at Expo.02 . The encyclopedia created at the University of Neuchâtel under the direction of Andres Kristol was published in book form in 2005 by the Huber Frauenfeld and Payot Lausanne publishers.
content
The LSG lectures and discusses the current scientific status of research on the linguistic origin of the names of all communities in Switzerland that existed at the time . It supplements the existing cantonal name books.
The work was published in three of the four national languages of Switzerland , namely German, French and Italian. The articles are written in the language in which the respective municipalities are located. Exceptions to this are the Rhaeto-Romanic place names, which are explained in German.
