Stefan Sonderegger

Stefan Sonderegger (born June 28, 1927 in Herisau ; † December 7, 2017 ) was a Swiss German linguist and name researcher . He was a full professor for Germanic philology at the University of Zurich .

Life

After attending the St. Gallen Cantonal School, Stefan Sonderegger studied German philology at the Universities of Zurich and Uppsala . In 1955 he received his doctorate in the subjects of the history of the German language and literature, the comparative history of the Germanic languages ​​and historical auxiliary sciences ( palaeography and diplomatics).

Appointed Associate Professor of German Philology in 1961 and Full Professor in 1964, he taught at the University of Zurich until his retirement in 1994. 1980–1982 he worked as dean of the Philosophical Faculty I, 1973–1984 as a research councilor of the Swiss National Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research . The main areas of his research were the history of the German language and onomatology, as well as the history of German science .

From 1960, Sonderegger was a general staff officer in the Swiss Army , from 1973 a colonel and from 1982 a brigadier and head of the troop information service.
