Johannes Kramer (born October 25, 1946 in Bückeburg ) is a German Romance studies and linguist .

Life

As a student at the Stiftisch-Humanist Gymnasium in Mönchengladbach , Johannes Kramer obtained his Abitur in February 1966. He then studied Classical and Romance Philology at the University of Cologne and passed his state examination in 1971 in Greek, Latin, Italian, French and Dutch.

His doctoral thesis Didymos the Blind , Commentary on the Ecclesiastes (Tura Papyrus Part IV) from the field of papyrology with Greek texts was published as early as 1972 . Johannes Kramer completed his habilitation in Romance studies with a thesis on the historical grammar of Dolomite Ladin , the two volumes of which were published in 1977 and 1978. After working as an assistant in Cologne, Johannes Kramer was appointed full professor at the University of Siegen in 1979 at the age of 33 , from where he was appointed to the University of Trier in 1996 .

His teaching activities are characterized by the interdisciplinary breadth and depth of the courses. He has expanded his teaching focus from Italian to Spanish and French, and partly to Portuguese. He also offers courses in classical philology.

Research priorities

Johannes Kramer essentially has two academic pillars, Classical Philology and the Romance languages ​​with special consideration of the smaller Romance languages ​​up to Aromanian . His research interest continues to be characterized by a diversity and scientific scope, which is also reflected in his numerous publications. Papyrology , etymology and word history, Luxembourg studies (here he is a member of the Research Center for Languages ​​and Literatures of Luxembourg at the University of Trier) as well as creole studies and research on bilingualism can be listed as general research focuses . He is also a member of the research group Network Medieval and Renaissance in Romania .

He publishes the magazine Romance Studies in Past and Present (since 1995) and the Balkan Archive (since 1976), both with supplements. From 1985 to 2014, he and others supervised 28 volumes of the Romance Studies Colloquium , which he co-founded.

Kramer has been married to the papyrologist Bärbel Kramer since 1973 .
