Wolfgang Dahmen

Wolfgang Dahmen (born January 20, 1950 in Düsseldorf ) is a German Romance studies and nationwide the only professor for Romanian linguistics and literature . He works at the Institute for Romance Studies at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and is married to Ursula Dahmen. He publishes on dialectology , onomastics , sociolinguistics , language contact , language history and writing .

biography

Wolfgang Dahmen studied Romance studies, geography and history in Cologne and Nancy from 1968 to 1974 , where he worked as Assistant d'allemand at the Center Pédagogique Régional. As a scholarship holder, he stayed in France , Italy , Romania , Hungary , Switzerland and Bulgaria . He completed his studies with the first state philological examination in French and geography. He completed additional studies in classical philology from 1975 to 1977 at the University of Cologne.

In 1977 he had a representative position in the Romanian Lektorat at the University of Cologne. In the same year Dahmen began to work as a freelancer for Westdeutscher Rundfunk in Cologne. In 1978 he was employed as a research assistant in the DFG project Aromanian Language Atlas . In addition, Dahmen had the functions of an academic council for a time, an academic council and an academic senior council at the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg . There he received his doctorate in philosophy in 1982 with a study of the dialectal situation in central France .

From 1990 to 1991 Dahmen was part of a DAAD- financed part-time lecturer at the University of Education in Zwickau . He was released from 1991 to 1993 at the University of Bamberg to represent the professorship for Romance Linguistics in Zwickau. He completed his habilitation in 1993 at the University of Siegen . After replacing the professorship for Romance Linguistics and Medieval Studies in Bamberg for a semester , Dahmen came to the University of Jena in 1994 , where he initially held a substitute professorship for Romanian philology.

The following year he was appointed Professor of Romanian Philology at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, where he was Dean of the Philosophical Faculty between 2005 and 2008. This was followed by membership in the Senate of the University of Jena from 2010 to 2013. In his capacity as professor for Romanian linguistics and literary studies, he organized a roundtable discussion with the then Romanian President Ion Iliescu at the University of Jena in 1996 . In the autumn of the same year operated Dahmen as OSCE - election observers in the presidential election in the Republic of Moldova . Together with colleagues from the subjects of South Slavic Studies and Eastern European History, he introduced the Southeast European Studies course at the University of Jena in 1997 . In 2013 he was awarded the Order of Culture of Merit with the rank of commander by the then President of Romania, Traian Băsescu .
