The Jonenbach , also called Jonen , is an approximately 22 kilometer long right tributary of the Reuss in the Swiss cantons of Zurich and Aargau . It flows through the Säuliamt and the Kelleramt and crosses the Jonental .
The Jonenbach (dial. Joone; Joonebach) shares its name with the Jona in the Zurich Oberland , a tributary of the upper Lake Zurich .

The Jonen rises at 706 m above sea level. M. near Husertal in the area of the municipality of Hausen am Albis . Its direction of flow is west or northwest. On his way he passes the villages of Rifferswil , Mettmenstetten , Affoltern am Albis , Zwillikon and Jonen , which is named after the brook. At Affoltern it flows through the Jonenbach flood retention basin and at Jonen it flows into the Reuss . In Zwillikon, a spinning mill was operated using the water from the Jonenbach .
In the ravine above the community of Jonen is the Jonental pilgrimage chapel , which was first built in the 16th century in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary and was rebuilt between 1734 and 1737 after its destruction by the people of Zurich in 1556 during the First Villmerger War .
Catchment area
The 43.4 square kilometer catchment area of the Jonenbach consists of 57.4% agricultural area, 28.7% near-natural area and forest and 13.9% built-up area. Of these, 38.5 square kilometers are in the canton of Zurich and here in the Säuliamt , 4.9 square kilometers are in the basement office and Freiamt in the canton of Aargau.
The municipalities of Hausen am Albis , Rifferswil , Mettmenstetten , Aeugst am Albis , Affoltern am Albis and Jonen , through which the river runs, as well as the municipalities of Kappel am Albis , Ottenbach , Obfelden , Hedingen , Bonstetten , Islisberg , Arni and Oberlunkhofen have a share in the catchment area .
The catchment area is an average of 586 m above sea level. M. and has an average annual rainfall of 1225 mm. The highest point of the entire area is 912 m above sea level. M. am Bürglen , the highest point of the Albis chain .
