history

In a change of hands in November 1269, the name apud Zwillinkon appeared for the first time . A knight Kuno von Villmergen sells some goods for four silver marks to the abbess Udelhild of the Frauenthal monastery . A chapel was built around 1300. It was a branch of the Unterlunkhofen Church . In 1693 a school was founded in Zwillikon. Teacher Hurter taught about 40 students in-house. In 1695 Zwillikon had 100 inhabitants (including Loo / Fehrenbach). In 1827 Johannes Stocker built a spinning mill that was operated by the hydropower of the Jonenbach . 1865, the entrepreneur Heinrich Bear opened in the former mill , a spinning Loo. In 1875 Jakob Andreas Biedermann converted his cotton spinning mill (10,000 spindles) into a stock corporation . In 1902 street lighting was introduced based on 17 oil and kerosene lanterns. In Zwillikon there used to be a butcher, a bakery, a shop and two restaurants ( Post and Neuhof ). Today there is still a volg and several bus stops.
coat of arms
The hamlet of Zwillikon bears the coat of arms of the Lords of Lunkhofen . The Aargau municipality of Unterlunkhofen also bears the coat of arms of the Lords of Lunkhofen with the difference that the shield is divided in white and blue. The blazon reads: "Divided five times by white and black, covered by a red pole."
Personalities
- The best-known Zwilliker is Jacob Grob , the first train driver in Switzerland .
- On Knabenschiessen already two Zwilliker have won (in): Marcel Steiner (1994 with 35 points) and Fabienne Frey (2004 with 34 points).
Zwillikon Chapel
There are only two stone buildings from the Middle Ages in the municipality of Affoltern am Albis. The foundation walls of the Romanesque church in Affoltern and the chapel in Zwillikon from 1300. The chapel on Weidstrasse was converted into a double house in 1840, with the choir integrated into one part of the house and the nave into the other. The Gothic pointed arch windows were bricked up. The chapel can only be guessed at by the slightly raised windows and the special shape of the current building.
