Bonstetten ( Zurich German older Baustette [ ˈbæʊ̯ˌʃtetːə ]) is a municipality in the district of Affoltern in the canton of Zurich , Switzerland .
geography
The community consists of two parts: Bonstetten-Dorf and Bonstetten-Schachen. The Bonstetten-Wettswil train station is also located in the Schachen district at 527 m above sea level. M .; Bonstetten-Dorf lies at the parish hall / church at 543 m above sea level. M. Bonstetten borders in the north on Wettswil am Albis , in the east on Stallikon , in the south on Hedingen and in the west on Islisberg and Birmensdorf .
history
Three grave mounds from the Bronze and Hallstatt Ages form the first traces of human settlement in Bonstetten. The remains of a Roman house were found in the Gibel .
It was first mentioned in writing as "Boumstettin" in 1122 in a document from the Diocese of Constance. A small castle complex was examined more closely in 1989. It could be the ancestral seat of the Lords of Bonstetten , who were first mentioned in 1122 with Henricus de Bonstadin .
In 1415, in the successor to the Habsburgs , high jurisdiction was transferred to the city of Zurich .
After the village fire of 1783, which destroyed 23 residential houses, the Zurich government issued strict building regulations for reconstruction. With the construction of Waldeggstrasse to Zurich in 1827 and the railway in 1864, the community experienced a certain boom.

The community has a Coop , Migros and Spar branch each . The shopping opportunities are dominated by the two centers Burgwies and Heumoos.

Public transport
The Bonstetten-Wettswil train station is in the Schachen district . This is served by the S 5 Zug - Affoltern a. A. - Zurich HB - Uster - Pfäffikon SZ and the S 14 Affoltern a. A. - Altstetten - Zurich HB - Oerlikon - Wallisellen - Hinwil on the Zurich S-Bahn . The Bonstetten-Wettswil train station can be reached in 20 minutes from Zurich main station. The station is 528 m above sea level. M. the clearly highest station on the Zurich – Zug railway line . The station has a double name, but is located entirely in the municipality of Bonstetten. The station was opened in 1864 with the Zurich – Zug line as the Bonstetten station. The new building designed by architect Thomas Schinkhof was completed in 2008. The station has two platform tracks (track 2 and 3) which can be reached through a central platform. The central platform is connected to the station forecourt by an underpass. The underpass has two stairways each, one of which is designed as a barrier-free ramp. The third track (track 1) is not equipped with a platform. It is used for shunting work as well as for the parking of track construction trains. There are also two short sidings in the direction of Zurich. One of them is a buffer store for cistern wagons containing ethylene oxide. This track is fenced and protected, the standards of safety technology are met. There is an avec convenience shop in the station building, which is open 365 days a year. There is also an SBB train ticket counter in this building. In addition to the counters at the Zurich Altstetten, Zug and Affoltern a. A. Bonstetten-Wettswil is the only train station with a ticket counter that is served directly by the SBB and not by a third-party provider. 107 parking spaces are available on the station premises. There are also covered bike spaces. A signal box is located north of the station building. The new building also opened a bus station on the station forecourt. The Bonstetten-Wettswil train station is a central transfer point for the villages of Bonstetten, Wettswil, Islisberg and parts of Stallikon. Accordingly, many buses serve the station. All seven bus routes are operated by PostBus (PU Rolf Stutz AG, Jonen).

Attractions
The Turbinenmuseum Bonstetten owns a completely preserved hydropower plant for agricultural use and one of the last two water rights granted by the Canton of Zurich.
There are four churches in Bonstetten:
- The reformed church is the oldest of the churches in Bonstetten. It is located in the center of the village.
- The Roman Catholic Church of St. Mauritius is opposite the train station and was inaugurated in 2016.
- The New Apostolic Church is located at Schachermatten 16.
- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is located at Heumattstrasse 2.
education
In Bonstetten there are kindergartens, primary schools and high schools. The primary school consists of four school buildings and a pavilion as well as after-school care and lunch. In addition to Bonstetten itself, the Bonstetten secondary school is also attended from the communities of Wettswil, Stallikon and Islisberg (AG). Conversely, the Bonstetter attend high school in Zurich or Urdorf.
Others
Part of the classic film It happened in broad daylight was filmed in Bonstetten in 1958 in the Löwen restaurant. The 1967 feature film “Policeman Wäckerli in Danger” also took place in front of the old bakery in Bonstetten.
