Reuss Glacier
The Reuss Glacier was a glacier from the Würm glacial period in what is now Switzerland . During his retreat, he left behind numerous moraines , drumlins , gravel plains as well as larger and smaller lakes such as the Hallwil and Baldeggersee in the Reuss valleys in Aargau and Zurich . The Vierwaldstättersee was also created as the edge of the glacier lake of the Reuss glacier. Like every glacier, the Reuss Glacier also left numerous boulders behind . The best known is probably the Druidenstein near Morschach .
The name Reussgletscher is also used for glaciers that advanced through the Urseren and Reuss valleys with roughly the same location during the older glacial periods, such as the Riss glacial period from the Gotthard massif area . The following glaciers and firne are remnants of the Reuss glacier:
- the Tiefengletscher in the valley between Galenstock , Tiefenstock and Winterstock
- the Sidelen Glacier , at the eastern foot of the Gross Furkahorn and Galenstock
- the Muttengletscher , east of the Muttenhörner
- the Witenwasseren glacier , north of the Witenwasseren stock
- the St. Annafirn , north between Chastelhorn and Gemsstock
- the Gurschenfirn , north between Gemsstock and Gurschenstock
- the Upper Schatzfirn , north of the Pizzo Centrale
The Lucerne Glacier Garden shows traces of the Reuss Glacier , among other things.
