Elfriede Weidenhaus

Elfriede Weidenhaus (* 1931 in Berlin ) is a German artist who is known for her watercolors , drawings , etchings , lithographs and lacquer pictures and who has made a name for herself as an ex libris artist.

Elfriede Weidenhaus studied from 1947 to 1950 with Max Schwimmer at the University of Graphics and Book Art in Leipzig. From 1953 to 1990 she worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist in Stuttgart. In 1991 she moved to Erkenbrechtsweiler and resumed printing with the cicada press, which was founded in 1959. It appeared:

Elfriede Weidenhaus created pictures of the Balkans, Greece, France, Italy and cityscapes of London, Paris, Rome and Amsterdam. Illustrations for her stories and fairy tales have appeared in the Stuttgarter Zeitung and in Reader's Digest, for poems by Salvatore Quasimodo and works by Manfred Hausmann . From 1968 to 1969 a larger cycle of etchings on “erotic-Arcadian metamorphoses” was published as a variation on a cheerful, fantastic game that makes the reality of our dreams visible. Works by Elfriede Weidenhaus have been shown in many exhibitions. The bibliography of the books that have been illustrated by the artist comprises 58 titles so far.
