history

Erkenbrechtsweiler 1683/1685 in the Kieser forest inventory book

A barrow from the Bronze Age proves that people lived in the district as early as the Bronze Age. Remnants from the Hallstatt period were also found.

Erkenbrechtsweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1284 as Hergenbolswiler or Erggenboltswilaer , when Berthold von Neuffen transferred it to the bishopric of Speyer as a fief. In 1301 the place with the rule Neuffen was sold to the Counts of Württemberg . In 1910 Erkenbrechtsweiler was connected to the power grid, and from 1919 the water supply followed. The place came in 1938 to the newly formed district of Nürtingen and was merged with this in 1973 in the district of Esslingen. At the end of the Second World War in April 1945, house-to-house fighting took place, in which 28 Wehrmacht soldiers and six civilians were killed. Due to the influx of displaced persons and refugees, the new housing estate Hartbühl was created in the early 1950s . 1987 began with the town center renovation.

Religions

Erkenbrechtsweiler has been evangelical since the Reformation . The parish includes the municipality of Erkenbrechtsweiler and, since 2004, the district of Hochwang of the municipality of Lenningen. It has around 1700 members (as of 2005).

In addition, there is now also a New Apostolic Church. Roman Catholic Christians, on the other hand, have to go to the Lenningen district of Hochwang for worship.

Natural monuments

The Molach
  • The Heidengraben , a Celtic oppidum (a heavily fortified city), was built around 100 BC. It lies on a peninsula-like plateau between the Erms and Lauter valleys and, with a total of over 16 km², is the largest facility of its kind in Central Europe. The core of the oppidum with 153 hectares was the Elsachstadt west of Grabenstetten, which was additionally secured by multiple pre-fortifications. There is a reconstructed gate north of Erkenbrechtsweiler. To the south, the oppidum was secured with two walls, one of which south of Grabenstetten is still well preserved. An archaeological nature trail with many information boards opens up the facility for the visitor.
  • The Molach biotope on the edge of the Alb plateau lies above the chimney of a volcano that is only active in the Upper Miocene ( Swabian volcano ). The Schlottuff is water-retaining, so that damp spots form on the otherwise karstified Alb. The maar-like basin of the Molach is one of the rarities of the Alb. Many other damp spots or ponds ( shells ) led to settlement.
